Improving safety on construction sites
7 Aug 2006

AA radio have recently developed a "First Aid Call" system for use on building and construction sites. With a high emphasis placed on the need for "Safe work procedures" and the insistence on having qualified first aid staff on most building sites, the ability to get a message to the first aid staff quickly is imperative. AA Radio, in consultation with Industry and Union representatives, has developed a radio based system that enables quick notification of incidents and allows for voice communications between the calling location and the First Aid officer.

The First Aid officer gets immediate indications of the site initiating the call and also has the ability to talk to all units, as well as using the units as part of the site EWIS system. This means that if there is an incident that requires an evacuation or a general announcement, the AA Radio units can be used to sound an evacuation alert or make a Public Address announcement.

Each of the units has inbuilt battery back-up, with alarms back to the central site if the power is disconnected to any of the units, as well as giving low-battery aklarms if the power is off for an extended period. Configuration of the units is such that the First Aid officer can carry a handheld radio and still receive any incoming alarms so that he or she can be moving around the site and fulfilling other roles.

AA Radio have designed a system that is independent of building cabling, has battery back-up for power failures and allows for full flexibility around the site, truly a real benefit to the safety of workers in the construction industry.
